Alberto Sanchez Navalpotro is Co-Founder and CEO of Inbonis. Inbonis is a credit risk assessment specialist of SME. Inbonis has obtained B-Corp accreditation that recognises companies that are “using business as a force for good”. Navalpotro is an experienced private equity investment professional with focus on SME investing across EU. He was most recently Investment Director at Gravitation, the holding company of Charles Beigbeder (650M€ assets under management, over 250 investment in SMEs in France) and at private equity fund Jolt Capital. Prior to that, Navalpotro was a strategy consultant at Kaiser Associates and Trade Finance analyst at Bibby Financial Services in the UK. Alberto graduated in business administration Universidad de Alcalá, and holds a postgraduate in economy by the same university and an MBA from ESCP Europe.

Ana de la Cueva Fernández

Secretary of State for Economic and Business Affairs - Spain

Ana de la Cueva Fernández was appointed Secretary of State for Economic and Business Affairs in June 15, 2018. In her capacity as Secretary of State, she is responsible for the development of economic policy, macroeconomic forecasts, development of sectoral and other policies that affect the economy, the State Treasury, public debt management, financial policy and prevention of money laundering. She is also Alternate Governor in several International Financial Institutions.

Before assuming her current duties, she has held various positions in the Ministry of Economy, such as responsible for the Technichal Secretariat of the Government’s Economic Matters Commission and chief of cabinet for the Secretary of State of Economy. In addition, she has been Deputy Director General for the Economic Affairs, Assistant Deputy Director General for financial support for exports and senior advisor for external debt matters in the Spanish Treasury.

She has also been a member of the board of directors of CESCE (the Spanish export credit agency), the State Company Expansión Exterior and the Sociedad Pública de Alquiler.

She graduated in Economics at the Universidad Autónoma de Madrid. She is a State Economist and Trade Expert and speaks fluent English and French.

Andrew Watkins-Ball is the founder and CEO of JUMO – a company that has built and operates a technology platform delivering digital financial services to individuals and small businesses in emerging markets. The company works with forward thinking banks and payments operators to to redefine the rules of wealth building through access to high quality financial choices. 

So far more than 9 million customers in Africa and Asia have saved or borrowed on the platform. Roughly 70% of these are micro and small enterprises. 

For close on a decade, Watkins-Ball has focused on the technology and financial services sectors, as well as venturing into the application of nanotechnology in the energy sector. Prior to this he successfully built and sold various businesses including Gateway Telecommunications, a satellite service provider that was purchased by Vodacom in 2008. He also spent seven years at Wall Street investment bank, Salomon Brothers in London and New York.

Andrew Work has been providing insight, excitement and entertainment as an MC and business event facilitator in Hong Kong, Canada and across Asia for over a decade. Mr. Work had his start in public speaking as a campaigning politician in his native Canada, speaking in front of audiences of up to 800 people, microphone free. In Hong Kong, he has led business organisations that required him to speak to media and business gatherings many times a week.  He has hosted The Canadian Chamber Annual Ball as MC on more than 4 occasions in the past 10 years and been the auctioneer for the past three years, raising millions of dollars

Mr Work has worked with The Economist, Penton Media and was the Executive Director (now titled President) of The Canadian Chamber of Commerce in Hong Kong. He founded Hong Kong's first and only independent economic think tank, The Lion Rock Institute and is now the CEO of New Work Media, the publisher of Harbour Times, a publication for people working full time in policy, government and diplomacy.

In addition, Mr. Work has MC'ed literally hundreds of small and large business events including The Lion Rock Institute Gala Dinner with Nobel Prize Winner Vernon Smith and (former) Hong Kong Chief Executive Donald Tsang. (MC and one-to-one discussion moderator with Dr. Smith). He has MC’ed events introducing the Prime Minister of Canada, other national Cabinet Ministers and Mayors from across the country. He has MCed and guided in-depth on stage discussions with professionals from fields ranging from finance and fintech to self-storage, digital marketing and SME management. He holds a Bachelor of Science from McGill University and an MBA from the University of Victoria.

Ayodele is a graduate of Agricultural Economics from University of Ilorin where she was a university scholar with multiple awards. She holds a masters degree from Kellogg School of Management, Evanston, USA, where she had the opportunity to train in partner business schools in Hong Kong, Miami. She is a Chartered Accountant and has attended several training programs both locally and internationally. She has over 15 years of operational experience in banking spanning Corporate and Commercial Banking , SME Banking and Consumer Banking. 

Ayodele Olojede has strong knowledge of best practices in SME banking and risk management approaches to expand financial access to SMEs , women business owners and she led strategic transformational initiatives in Skye Bank and now Diamond Bank. As the strategic product leader for the business, she has core responsibility for market segmentation, business strategy, product/value offerings and budget ownership.

She started her SME banking career with HSBC Bank Canada where she worked for about four years, distinguishing herself as a goal oriented and a highly adaptable individual with the ability to maintain effectiveness with changing environments, tasks, responsibilities and people.

She worked with IFC to set up SME Banking framework for Skye bank to restructure and reposition the business for profitability. She later became the Head, Retail Banking, which came with the added responsibility to manage Consumer banking translating strategic goals into operational plans to achieve the required growth in sales and profit.

Ayodele currently heads the Emerging Business for Diamond Bank where she is strategically leveraging innovation in technology and partnerships to provide business management trainings, inclusive finance anchored on prudent underwriting approach, a marketplace for B2C as well as creating operational efficiencies through digital offerings to target SMEs and women businesses 

Ayodele possesses very strong leadership and managerial capacity, she is able to drive execution in a focused and co-ordinated manner.

Cameron Evans is the Global Lead for Risk Management at the International Finance Corporation (IFC). He provides technical expertise to support regional projects with financial institutions on risk management. He also leads the Global Knowledge Management program and product tool development in the area of risk management for financial institutions. He brings over 20 years of international banking experience to IFC working with financial institutions in the Middle East, Africa, Asia and Eastern Europe.

Yao has nearly 30 years of experience in financial services, IT and e-commerce organizations, holding several key leadership roles. Dato’ Mohammad Arif Siddiqui

Working at Standard Chartered Bank for 28 years in an executive management position as Chief Information Officer, I led a staff of up to 6,700 members and devised strategies on development of mobile banking and I-banking initiatives which were implemented in 56 countries in Asia, Mideast and in Africa. While also leading Bank Negara Malaysia initiatives on e-payment and achieving results with implementations of NFC debit Card, Apple Pay, and Samsung Pay along with a number of different cash wallets on a national scale. Responsibilities also included setting the strategy for cyber security, information security for Standard Chartered. 

As Lead Consultant with Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation, my role is to lead the project to develop and deliver a digital inclusion program in 8 countries, the pilot is in Pakistan where McKinsey is responsible for execution of project at ground. This includes working to create a National Digital Payment Gateway in Pakistan which seeks to provide digital transformation in a country where digital inclusion is minimal. Also helping SBP to prepare the guideline for digital Bank and e-money program.

Diego Cabezudo is the CEO and Co-­founder of leading Spanish cloud computing company, Gigas. Prior to setting up Gigas, he was CEO of IT consulting AGS, where he grew revenues significantly and expanded into five countries. He was also COO of FON.com, the largest WiFi network in the world and Head of Strategy for mobile services provider O2 where he led the launching of 3G network in Ireland. Before joining Equity Bank, Muiruri worked with Government of Kenya in various positions managing agriculture projects working with farmers and other stakeholders in the wider agriculture sector in Kenya.

Gautam also ran the Gates Foundation’s largest-ever grantee in financial inclusion (the $26m CGAP technology program at the World Bank), chaired the global telecom association (GSMA) fund for mobile money, advised US-based VC and private equity funds, consulted to Fortune 500 players including Microsoft and Visa, and developed projects in 9 countries. Gautam is a Board Director at Vaya Finserv (a leading Indian MFI), an advisor to Encourage Capital, and an investor in multiple fintech startups.

Vice President, Latin America & Caribbean, and Europe & Central Asia - IFC

Georgina Baker is IFC’s Vice President for Latin America and the Caribbean, and Europe and Central Asia. In this role, she’s responsible for a committed IFC portfolio of $28.5 billion.

Previously, Ms. Baker served IFC in two capacities: as Director of Syndications and as Deputy Treasurer, based in London, where she headed Treasury Operations for Europe, the Middle East, and North Africa.

As Director of Syndications, Ms. Baker was responsible for IFC's syndicated lending program—the oldest and largest among multilateral development banks, with a portfolio totaling more than $15 billion. It included the Managed Co-lending Portfolio Program (MCPP), an innovative platform launched in 2016 that successfully allocated $3 billion in under 18 months.

Prior to that, Ms. Baker managed IFC’s suite of trade and supply-chain finance products, starting with IFC’s flagship trade program, the Global Trade Finance Program. In her 25 years at IFC, Ms. Baker has held positions in several areas—including manufacturing in Eastern Europe and financial-sector investments in South Asia, Europe, Central Asia, and the Middle East and North Africa.
Before joining IFC, Ms. Baker worked in the United Kingdom and Indonesia as a mechanical engineer. She holds an MBA from the London Business School.

Hans Docter is director of Sustainable Economic Development and ambassador of Private Sector & Development Cooperation at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Netherlands.  

Hans has a long history in Foreign Policy. He was the Dutch special envoy for Ebola and was the project leader of the Ukraine referendum in the Netherlands. Previously he was Ambassador of the Netherlands to Ghana and Deputy Ambassador of the Netherlands to Ethiopia and Kenya. He also has extensive work experience in Indonesia and Russia. 

Hans studied Law at the University of Amsterdam.

After obtaining his degree in Law from the Complutense University of Madrid, he started his career within the Group in Spain, taking up the position of Branch Manager at the former Banca Commerciale Italiana branch in Barcelona and, later on, that of Deputy General Manager at the branch of Madrid, a position which he held until 1998. In the following year, he served as General Manager at Banque Sudameris Uruguay (1999-2002), then at Banco Sudameris Chile (2002 -2003) and at Banco Sudameris Paraguay (2003 – 2004). He was also board director of Banco Sudameris Argentina, Banco Wiese Sudameris Peru and Banco Sudameris Colombia.

In 2005, he became Deputy Chief Executive Officer and Vice-Chairman of the Management Board of VUB Banka where, in August 2007, he was appointed Chief Executive Officer and Chairman of the Management Board, a position which he held until September 2013. Over the years his other responsibilities also included board member positions at Uruguayan, Chilean, Paraguayan and Slovak Bankers Associations and at Italian-Uruguayan, Italian-Chilean and Italian-Paraguayan Chambers of Commerce. He also held the position of President of the Italian-Slovak Chamber of Commerce (2009 – 2012).

Since 2013 he has been Member of the Board of Directors of Intesa Sanpaolo Holding Luxembourg and Vice Chairman of the Supervisory Board of VUB Banka, where he became Chairman in March 2018. In June 2016 he was appointed Member of the Board of Italy-China Foundation and in June 2018 he became Member of the Board of Directors of Fideuram Asset management Ireland (FAMI). In 2012 he was awarded of the honour of Commendatore Ordine al Merito of the Italian Republic.

Since 1995 Jack has fulfilled multiple roles within ING. In these roles there has always been a direct link between Business Banking and Innovation. The last three years Jack worked for ING Direct in Italy. In co-creation with international FinTechs ING Italy has launched an innovative digital lending proposition for Italian SME entrepreneurs: within 10 minutes Italian SMEs get an answer to a loan application up to € 100.000,-. Jack returned to ING The Netherlands recently in the role of Area Lead Business Banking. In this new role Jack is responsible for Beyond Banking Services and launching a Platform Proposition for SMEs. Jack is married, has three children and holds MSc’s in Business Administration and Marketing.

James Polan

Vice-President, Small and Medium Enterprise Finance Department - OPIC

Jim Polan is the Vice-President of the Small and Medium Enterprise Finance Department at the Overseas Private Investment Corporation (OPIC).  The SME Finance Department administers OPIC SME direct lending programs sponsored by US companies and financial institutions.

From 2005 Jim introduced, designed and implemented exceptionally innovative, developmental and award winning products including those involving MSME, renewable/clean tech energy and low income housing finance resulting in a multi-billion dollar increase in assets and significant economic and social developmental benefits. 

In 2003 Jim led the effort to create OPIC’s Small Business Center (SBC).  The center was established to provide greater access to capital for small U.S. companies investing in developing countries. The SBC lending programs reduces the time and transaction costs typically associated with project financings.

 Prior to assuming the role of Vice-President  Jim has led project teams to project finance transaction closings throughout the world, covering sectors including manufacturing, Oil and Gas, Private Power, Transportation, Communications, Mining, Tourism, Agro-Industry and franchising representing tens of Billion Dollars in foreign direct investment in over 150 developing countries.

Prior to joining OPIC in 1995 Mr. Polan spent the previous 16 years working for development finance banking institutions in Botswana and has been a financial and economic consultant to financial institutions throughout Southern Africa and the Far East.  While in Africa, Mr. Polan sat on over 45 Company Boards of Directors and chaired four in addition. He managed and closed over 100 project finance deals.  Mr. Polan conceived of, arranged financing for and developed the first Private Hospital in Botswana, was its Board Chairman, and went on to be its Chief Executive Officer. He was an active member of several SADC economic fora and delivered papers on several subjects concerning the private sector and development in Southern Africa.

James Anderson is executive vice president, Digital Payment Products at Mastercard. In this role he leads two initiatives; Masterpass and Mastercard Digital Enablement Service (MDES). Masterpass is the flagship Mastercard digital payment service offered to consumers by their card issuers. MDES enables Mastercard accounts to be used on digital devices through multiple digital payment services – including Masterpass.

James has spent his career at the intersection of mobile, payment, and internet technologies in Product Development, Business Development and General Management roles.

James joined Mastercard in 2007.

José Carlos García de Quevedo is Chairman of Instituto de Crédito Oficial – ICO -  in June 2018. He holds a degree in Economics and Business from the Complutense University of Madrid and is a member of the Spanish State Trade Analysts and Economists.

Previously, he was Executive Director for Invest in Spain in ICEX Spain Trade and Investments 2012 and 2018, and was responsible for attracting and promoting direct foreign investment in Spain and obtaining international financing for new investment projects. 

Before he was General Director for Trade and Investments in the State Secretariat for Trade of the Ministry of Economy and Competitiveness;  Head Economic and Trade Counsellor  at the Spanish Permanent Representation to the European Union in Brussels;  and General Director for Insurance and Pension Funds at the Ministry of Economy and Finance among other positions. .

He has been member of committees and board of directors of several companies and funds including: ICO, ICEX, CESCE, COFIDES, FIEM, Crédito y Caución, Consorcio de Compensación de Seguros…among others.

He has published  a number of articles about economics, finance, and international trade and investments, and he s an active speaker at business and professional seminars and forums both in Spain and abroad.

José M. González-Páramo is Ph.D., M.Phil. and M.A. in Economics from Columbia University. He also holds a Ph.D. from Universidad Complutense de Madrid.

His professional record is a blend of central bank decision-making and private sector responsibilities, academic experience and advisory positions. Raja Debnath has been with IFC since 2012 and has worked extensively across Middle East, Eastern Europe and South Asia SME banking engagements. He joined IFC from EY where he was the SME and Consumer banking Specialist for India. Africa Head, Fintech Investments - IFC

Rostan Schwab is Africa Head, Fintech Investments, at International Finance Corporation (IFC), a member of the World Bank Group.

Rostan is a French and Brazilian national. He started his professional career in 1995 as a junior auditor at Arthur Andersen, France. He then worked five years as a strategy consultant for Stratorg and Mercer Management Consulting (now Oliver Wyman). There, he was involved in the design of international expansion plans for leading European conglomerates in the steel, energy and food sectors and in the conduct of M&A and strategic due diligence for private equity firms in the automobile, mining and infrastructure sectors.  

Rostan joined IFC in 2004 through the Global Transaction Team (GTT) program in Washington DC. At IFC, Rostan advised governments in Latin America and in Middle-East and North Africa on privatizations and Public-Private Partnerships (PPP) in infrastructure sectors (airport, airline, port, telecom, solar energy, health). He closed 5 advisory transactions which led to the mobilization of over US$1 billion of private sector investments. One of Rostan’s advisory transactions, the privatization of telecom incumbent TELECO in Haiti, received both an IFC corporate award and an IFC advisory services excellence award in 2013. Rostan also worked with the investment side of IFC. He worked on IFC’s North African Investments in the manufacturing, agribusiness and services sector then on IFC’s Telecommunications, Media, and Technology (TMT) investments for Sub-Saharan Africa. Since September 2016, Rostan leads IFC’s Fintech investments for Sub-Saharan Africa.

Rostan holds a finance master from E.M. Lyon (France), a MBA from the Wharton School (USA), and a master in international studies from The Lauder Institute (University of Pennsylvania, USA). He also graduated from the National Music Academy of Strasbourg (France) in piano.

Rostan speaks French, Portuguese, Spanish, German and English. He is currently based in Johannesburg, South Africa.

She started her trade finance career with Fortis Bank commodity trade finance team, first in Rotterdam dealing with asset-backed finance, then in London leading the structured commodity portfolio in Latin America and finally in Sao Paulo, as Chief Representative Officer Brazil. 

Before she ventured into the trade finance arena, Sandra had worked in Portugal at Mckinsey & Co as an associate consultant and at Semapa S.A. as an internal advisor.  Sandra holds a Msc. in Economics and an MBA from Universidade Nova de Lisboa, Portugal.

Susan is part of the financial institutions group at IFC. She invests in insurance, both mature companies and earlier stage technology related to insurance, in developing countries. She has 30 years experience in insurance in a variety of different roles.

Prior to joining IFC, Susan worked at Swiss Re, where she was a Managing Director and Head of Strategy for the reinsurance business worldwide and a member of the executive team. In this capacity she worked on all aspects of life and health and property casualty re/insurance; headed a global team; and led the strategy work for emerging markets and for Fintech. Susan also held the positions of CFO of Reinsurance Client Markets and Head of Investor Relations at Swiss Re.

Before Swiss Re, Susan worked in equity research and equity sales covering the insurance industry at UBS, JP Morgan and Paribas. Susan started her career as a Chartered Accountant with Touche Ross (now Deloitte) in London and then established a counterparty credit analysis department for an insurance broker. She is a member of the Chartered Institute of Securities and Investments in the UK.

Susan is a British national. She graduated from Magdalen College, Oxford with a degree in modern history. In 2014, Susan completed the Advanced Management Program at Harvard Business School. She is also an angel investor and advisor to several start-ups.

Successful transformation of a segment of informal market into proper formal regulatory network has been one of his key achievements over last few years. Before joining SBP, he has worked for a Development Financial Institution in Pakistan in private sector. Mr. Hasnain holds a Bachelor of Engineering Degree from NED University and Cost & Management Accounting qualification with number of distinctions.

A business economist and corporate executive for over 25 years, Ted Chu's primary expertise is in four broad areas: corporate strategy, public policy analysis, multinational operations, and financial asset management. He joined the International Finance Corporation [aka IFC, part of the World Bank Group] in September 2014, as Chief Economist.

Prior to joining IFC, Chu was Professor of Practice Economics at New York University – Abu Dhabi. From 2010 to 2013, he was Chief Economist for the Abu Dhabi Investment Authority, providing macroeconomic guidance to the fund's investment strategy and tactical asset allocation.

An American citizen since 1996, Chu was born and raised in Shanghai. He holds a PhD in Economics from Georgetown University, and a BA in Economic Management from Fudan University, China.

Dr. Meng is a graduate of the National University of Singapore and has over ten years of research experiences in internet industry, fin-tech industry, telecommunication industry, and information systems.

Dr. Meng leads the project “Digital China Index”, which use billions of users’ real time data to measure the adoption of mobile internet in 31 provinces and 351 cities in China. She also lead “Internet+” project, which help many provinces and cities in China implement “Internet+” strategy.

In recent years, she has numerous research reports published in China Daily, the Harvard Business Review, and other notable publications. She has been featured in an exclusive CCTV interview (a top TV channel in China). Her book, Management Economics, has been used as teaching material by many of the top MBA programs. Prior to JD Finance Research Institute, Dr. Meng was the Chief Economist and vice dean of Tencent Research Institute, Deputy Secretary of Tencent Foundation. She also worked as the director of Deloitte TMT Center of Excellence, research leader of Accenture Institute of High Performance, chief researcher of Samsung Economics Research Institute, and assistant professor at the Renmin University of China.
