Janet Geddes is a highly experienced banker who has worked extensively in management of NPLs, and managing NPL teams, for over 20 years.
Janet is currently Principal Trainer on an IFC-funded project providing training in Non-Performing Loan (NPL) resolution. She has undertaken training of bankers in Azerbaijan and also Ukraine, with other countries scheduled for this year. The overall project is designed to build the management and strategic capacity of senior experienced bankers in several countries in central and eastern Europe, as well as Africa, and covers most types of finance e.g. corporate, retail, project, trade finance, leasing.
Janet has specialised in business and financial restructuring, cross-border asset recovery, NPL lending recoveries, contentious insurance cases, export credit insurance/trade finance, business and asset valuations, restructuring of financial institutions, corporate governance, SME lending and recovery, project and infrastructure finance. She also has experience of good bank/bad bank splits and setting up and running Asset Management Corporations (AMCs).
She holds qualifications in corporate governance and regulatory compliance, including capital markets intermediaries, as well as in dispute resolution and asset valuation. Substantial expertise in working with banks, credit and general insurance companies, regulators, professional bodies, agri-business (rice trading), real estate, investment funds and the public sector. She has held senior line management positions in banks, insurance companies and “Big-4”. Non-executive directorships have been in heavy industry, as well as hospitality, construction and real estate.
Janet has worked extensively across South Asia, East Asia, Middle East and Europe. Countries have included Thailand, China, Latvia, Afghanistan, UK, Spain, France, Azerbaijan and Ukraine.
Janet is a regular speaker at conferences, including those of Asia Transformation & Turnaround Association (ATTA).
