Karel Nierop is Fund Manager at Triodos Investment Management (IM), with a strong belief that we can make money work for positive change. After gaining finance experience at the corporate banking department of Rabobank, Karel moved to Nepal in 2010 to work on the development of a new run-of-river hydropower project. Karel joined Triodos IM in 2012 as Senior Investment Officer in the financial inclusion team with a main focus on South Asia. In his current role, Karel manages the Hivos-Triodos Fund with a portfolio of early-stage debt and equity investments in 20 countries in Latin America, Africa and Asia to catalyse sustainable food and energy transition in developing countries. Karel graduated from the Hotel Management School Maastricht and holds a Master’s degree in Business Administration from the Erasmus University Rotterdam, writing his final thesis on Business Ethics. He is a board member of Caspian Impact Investments in India and sits in several investment committees of Triodos IM.
