John believes in the power of empathy to design better financial services that can help low-income people achieve prosperity. As Director of the Financial Health program at IDEO.org, he guides teams in the Human-Centered Design process from behavioral insights to prototype tests and works closely with partner organizations to implement impactful solutions around the world.
At IDEO.org, John has worked on projects including designing customer-centered mobile-money experiences with Tigo Cash in Ghana and an ecosystem of marketing, products, and services for smallholder farmers with Econet in Zimbabwe. John previously has worked in IDEO’s New York office at the intersection of communication design and business design, specializing in finding compelling stories in complex financial information. Before that, John has served as a news-graphics editor at The Wall Street Journal, where he covered financial, economic, and political news, worked on real estate financial graphics, and consulted in information design.
